She holds a Law degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her professional career combines extensive public sector experience with distinguished leadership in corporate public affairs, with expertise in international relations, corporate diplomacy, and public-private collaboration, with a particular focus on Latin America.
In the public sector, she held senior positions including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2010–2011) and Minister of Health and Social Policy (2009–2010). She previously served as Secretary of State for Latin America (2006–2009) and Secretary of International Relations of the PSOE (2000–2007), as well as Vice President of the Party of European Socialists (2000–2004). Her political career also includes serving as a Member of Parliament (2011–2016), running as a candidate for Mayor of Madrid, and subsequently serving as a city councillor (2003–2006). She launched her international career living in Equatorial Guinea, Israel, and Cameroon (1990–1995), where she taught at the Spanish School in Bata and at UNED.
Since 2016, she has led the Global Public Affairs Strategy at Telefónica, S.A., with responsibility for corporate diplomacy, institutional presence, regional and international partnerships, and stakeholder engagement. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Telefónica and currently serves as President of the Brazil-Spain Chamber of Commerce and the Ibero-American Business Foundation.
Her experience in international relations has taken her to numerous professional conferences and roundtables, leading high-level delegations worldwide. She has received distinguished international honors, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III (Spain), the Order of Rio Branco (Brazil), and the Order of the Rising Sun (Japan).
