She completed postgraduate studies with a Master’s in Agricultural Economics from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s in European Communities. She has also undertaken executive programmes at Harvard Business School, the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and IESE, as well as specialised training in the energy sector. Her profile brings together technical expertise, legal grounding, and strategic leadership across the agri-food and energy industries.

In public life, she served as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment (2014–2018), a position she reached after having served twice as Secretary General of Agriculture (2000–2003 and 2003–2004, and subsequently 2012–2014). Her extensive institutional career, built across postings in Brussels (1996–1998) and national policy management, has earned her distinguished recognition, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III and the French Order of Agricultural Merit.

Her private sector career is equally notable. She spent eight years as Director of Strategic Planning at Fertiberia, where she led R&D, market research, and technical services. That experience consolidated her strategic management capabilities, which she has since brought to the boards of major corporations, integrating business performance with sustainability objectives.

She also serves on the board of Avanza Previsión, alongside her role as a visiting professor on the Master’s in Sustainability at the University of Navarra.
