Vicente Garrido Rebolledo (Madrid, 10 March 1966) holds a PhD in Political Science and Sociology (International Studies) from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and a Diploma in Advanced International Studies from the Society for International Studies (SEI).
Since 1999 he has been Professor of International Public Law and International Rel tions at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. He specialises in security and defence issues (proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disaramment and arms control)., with an extensive bibliographical output on this subject, including more than 200 articles and some twenty books as author and/or editor. As a researcher, he has participated over the last 20 years in numerous international programmes and research projects, including those of the Volkswagen Foundation in Germany.
He was a NATO Research Fellow from 1995 to 1997. Principal investigator of the «European Non Proliferation Project Working Group» of the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation in the United States and the PRIF of Frankfurt, between 1991 and 2001. Guest lecturer on various masters, postgraduate and specialisation courses.
Member-researcher of the working groups of the CESEDEN-Escuela de Altos Estudios de Defensa (EALEDE) of the Ministry of Defence since 1992. Since January 2011 he has been a member (the only Spanish member) of the European Union Consortium on Non-Proliferation (established by the Council of the European Union to advise the EU on the implementation of the European Strategy against the Proliferation of Weapons
of Mass Destruction).
In January 2014, he was appointed as a Member of the Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, for the period 2014-2017, as well as to the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).
Member of the Board of Trustees of the Spanish Atlantic Association, of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Vienna. He has participated as a member of several Task-Forces of the WEU-EU Institute for Security Studies Institute of the WEU-EU. He holds the Gold Medal of the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, the Honorary Medal of the San Pablo-CEU University Foundation, the
Medal of the Illustrious College of Lawyers of Honduras and a Cross of Naval Merit with white badge (2007).
