The meeting focused on analyzing the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a regional and international actor in light of the upcoming G20 summit, which will take place in Riyadh in November 2020. This multilateral gathering, in its fifteenth edition, will bring together the world’s leading leaders and will be held in Saudi Arabia after the country assumed the G20 Presidency on December 1, 2019.
Saudi Arabia highlights three key objectives within the framework of its G20 Presidency:
– Empowering People: Creating mechanisms that enable individuals to develop their skills and professional opportunities, with a particular focus on women and young people.
– Safeguarding the Planet: Protecting global resources is a priority, and collective efforts must be encouraged in this direction.
– Shaping New Frontiers: Adopting bold, long-term strategies to harness and share the benefits of innovation.
As part of this G20 agenda, Saudi Arabia is committed to collectively addressing the challenges of our time, focusing on the opportunities presented by technological innovation. One of these areas of development is the space industry, where cooperation between states can be highly beneficial. Additionally, space development can have a significant positive impact on sustainable development, food security, and global health.
Within its citizen empowerment agenda, Saudi Arabia is committed to fostering the best conditions for all individuals to thrive. The rise in social inequalities has led to growing public distrust in institutions, making it essential to promote equal access to opportunities, particularly for the most disadvantaged groups. Technological advancements and demographic changes are affecting citizens in different countries unequally, so the G20 must continue working to create quality jobs and adapt to changing work patterns while ensuring social protection.
The Working Breakfast was chaired by Juan Lladó, President of Técnicas Reunidas and Vice President of INCIPE. Also in attendance were representatives of the accredited diplomatic corps in Spain, members of the state security forces, and representatives from the business sector, among others.
